Jarring Morning

In the midst of a jarring morning, the sun rises--burning away the thoughts that have told me I am not good enough. The sun shows me through example with a fresh face every day. It is undeterred by the world's sadness, persistant in its mission, sure in its goals, and never wavering from its chosen path.

  1. No doubt, the sun just is.

Actually the word "jarring" here brought to mind that old Wallace Stevens poem:

I placed a jar in Tennessee,
And round it was, upon a hill.
    It made the slovenly wilderness
    Surround that hill.

The wilderness rose up to it,
And sprawled around, no longer wild.
The jar was round upon the ground
And tall and of a port in air.

    It took dominion every where.
The jar was gray and bare.
It did not give of bird or bush,
    Like nothing else in Tennessee.

  2. Your post reminded me of this poem I wrote about the sun:

    Imagine you are the Sun.

But, unlike the real Sun, you are conscious and all-knowing.

Would you take infinite joy in being the Sun?

Or would you envy human beings down on earth

Because they can walk around and play music

And give birth and laugh and love and do Yoga?

Should we worship the Sun, or should the Sun worship us?

Neither. Because we and the Sun are one and the same.

    The same universal cosmic intelligence.

    The same overwhelming wondrousness, unfathomableness.

The same quantum physics roots, the same cosmic dna.

    Not to worship

But to mutually rejoice in the kinship of our molecules

And the ineffable wonder of the universe.
